I regard science administration as the highest form of public service. My work brings together graduate education, student training, and research communities that cross disciplinary and institutional boundaries.

Quantum computing education

I am the Faculty Director of the Quantum Computing MS Program at the University of Maryland. Offered through the Science Academy, the program combines the mathematical and physical foundations of quantum computing with practical experience using quantum computing platforms.

The program website provides the curriculum, admissions requirements, and information for prospective students.

Teaching materials

With Markus Wess, I have written Hyperboloidal Compactification in NGSolve, an online book with executable finite element examples for wave propagation and scattering. It connects the geometry of compactification with numerical implementation; the source code and examples are publicly available.

My tutorials How to solve wave equations on unbounded domains and Banging a black hole introduce hyperboloidal methods through working calculations. Both include Google Colab notebooks that readers can run and modify in a browser.

Student mentoring

Through NSF Award 2309084, I have supported Ekrem Demirboğa and Govind Arun Kumar. This student training connects numerical relativity, applied mathematics, and scientific computing. The award’s education page describes the associated learning materials and training activities.

Research networks and programs

In addition to directing the Quantum Computing MS Program, I serve the MathQuantum Research Training Group, the Maryland Quantum-Thermodynamics Hub, and the Burgers Program in Fluid Dynamics.

With David Hilditch, Rodrigo Panosso Macedo, and Alex Vañó-Viñuales, I help build the Hyperboloidal Research Network. We bring together researchers through workshops, the Virtual Infinity Seminar series, and a topical collection in General Relativity and Gravitation. Earlier roles

My administrative work began in 2014 with KI-Net, an NSF-funded research network in kinetic theory. Over the course of my administrative work, I have served as Coordinator, Community Manager, IT Manager, Acting Business Director, and Graduate Program Manager. My past roles include graduate program administration for Chemical Physics and Biophysics at UMD.
